Learning the features and purpose of different text types is a crucial skill for all students. Students must learn to recognise different text types by their unique features and then incorporate this knowledge into their own writing. This can be an exciting progression for students, as their ability in reading, comprehension and writing improves and they learn that communication can take many forms.
Targeting Text Middle Primary covers three text types:
- Narrative
- Poetry
- Drama
Targeting Text contains structured teaching units for the most commonly studied text types. The series is designed to develop students’ comprehension and writing skills using real texts as models and by studying textual features. Each text type has comprehensive teaching notes including text models, text type scaffolds, practical work sheets and outcomes-based assessment support. The units explain audience, purpose, structure and language through a variety of activities, and develop skills for reading, writing, talking and listening.
