BO083: Teacher Tools: Numeracy Activites- Basic Facts

This book is designed to cover the teaching of every Basic Fact from Emergent through to Advanced Proportional stages (e.g. “adding and subtracting facts to five” – “Common factors in numbers up to 100 and highest common factors”.) There are 72 pages of activity sheets which teach these skills. Every activity sheet is broken into four sections:

• Prior knowledge required: This section gives students a chance to practice the skills which are a prerequisite to successfully completing this activity.
• New Strategy with materials: The questions posed during this part of the activity sheet are suitable for use with materials. The materials required are described at the top of this section.
• New strategy using imaging: This section is the next stepping stone from the materials section. Here materials are not provided. Thinking maps are often drawn here to model how a students should think about/ image the problem in his/her head.
• Word problems using number properties: These questions test students ability to generalise what they have learnt into real world questions.

This book also includes a school wide basic facts assessment resource. This resource includes tests, and graphs for students to record their achievement and improvements on. This resource may be photocopied for use within the house or school of purchase.
